Caring for Creation: Putting Laudato Si' into Practice

The Laudato Si’ Intercultural Association a.s.b.l. is a non-profit dedicated to promoting intercultural dialogue and social-environmental awareness in Luxembourg, and to helping our brothers and sisters in the Global South. Inspired by Pope Francis’ encyclical Laudato Si', we foster engagement and joint action through events like educational workshops, celebrations, and social-ecological campaigns. Our work supports the integration and active participation of different communities initiatives while encouraging sustainable practices. By organising exchange programs and implementing international sustainable development projects, we also aim to build global solidarity and support communities in need.

What is Laudato Si' about?

Laudato Si’ is an encyclical of Pope Francis published in May 2015. It focuses on care for the natural environment and all people, as well as broader questions of the relationship between humans and the Earth.

  • Interconnectedness of creation

The ecological crisis reflects a deeper crisis in human relationships and values.

  • Moral duty to care

Protecting the environment is a faith-based ethical responsibility.

  • Environmental justice

Degradation disproportionately harms the poor: ecological issues are deeply linked to social justice.

  • Collective action

Global dialogue and cooperation are essential to address our challenges.

Get to Know Laudato Si'

The first words of Laudato Si’ are Italian and translate as “praise be to you.” They are part of a quotation from St. Francis of Assisi’s “Canticle of the Creatures” that opens the encyclical in which the saint praises God by meditating on the goodness of sun, wind, Earth, water, and other natural forces. The choice of this passage to begin Laudato Si’ is a reminder of how people of faith should not only respect the Earth but also praise and honor God through their engagement with creation.
